The Gallimaufry Ensemble The Gallimaufry Ensemble was formed in 2000 at the Royal Academy of Music and was subsequently awarded the prestigious Leverhulme Chamber Music Fellowship. Their acclaimed recording of Sir Harrison Birtwistle's Five Distances was released on the Academy's own label. You can hear an excerpt of this on the audio page

Described as "dazzling" (The Times) and "arresting" (The Guardian), Gallimaufry has performed at major venues such as the Purcell Room, Almeida Theatre, National Portrait Gallery, St Martin-in-the-Fields, Hackney Empire and Lincolnshire International Music Festival. The Ensemble has toured to Ireland, Italy, Greece and France, including performances at the renowned "Classique au Vert" Festival in Paris.

Gallimaufry has given workshops demonstrating the workings of the wind quintet in situations as diverse as classrooms of children in inner city schools to the top of the BT Tower in London for corporate executives. More information about this can be found on the workshops page

The ensemble enjoys working closely with composers, and has commissioned and premiered numerous new works. They have worked with composers such as Pierre Boulez, Paul Patterson, John Woolrich, and with György Kurtág on his wind quintet, as part of the London Kurtág Festival.
